Dearest Aidan,

I am not entirely certain how to approach this particular letter, partially because I do not want to at all. However, it must be said, so I suppose I will go right out and say it. I have to leave, Aidan. I wanted to tell you but every time I saw you I couldn’t manage the right words. But I suppose I have to now. I have to leave because I am endangering the Order. I have an arrangement set out, but I shan’t be in Aridon any longer. Aidan, I know you will worry, but please, darling, don’t go looking for me. I know you probably will regardless, but believe me when I say that it is for the best that you do not find me. You have protected me for a very long time, and now it is my turn to protect you and the others I love.

I love you. You already know that, I’m sure, but I couldn’t leave without saying it in some form. I know this is going to be difficult on you, and believe me, if I could find any foreseeable end, I would. I do not want to leave.

Since I shall not be able to, I would ask one last thing of you. Please tell my mother something. I can’t tell you the truth because you would grow to despise me, but please devise an explanation that would be easier for you to stomach.

Love always,

                Your Ellis
